6- PRESTON COUNTY JOURNAL- Wednesday, September 28, 2011- Kingwood, WV WCTU00 meeting set Members of Tunnelton Wom- an's Christian Temperance Union met for their regular monthly meeting at the Denver United Methodist Church, on Tuesday August 16, 2011, with President Mary Borgman pre- siding. Loretta Goff read scripture from Exodus 15:22-26 and presented the devotions, fol- lowed by a reading, "God Will Supply Your Need,' taken from Teams in action the book, Seasons of the Heart. Members asked prayer for Dick Frame, Donna Goff, Mark Goff, Jerry Casteel, Arkie Myers, and Friday Zetty. Prayer was led by Dick Frame. The treasurer's report was ready by Regina Bell. A thank-you card was read from Kaitlynd Bolyard, thank- ing our WCTU for the monetary donation given her for winning county 2011 WCTU essay on The Bruceton Bulldogs football and cheerleading squad have kicked off their fall 2011 schedule. Upcoming October games are listed below, come on Out to the games and wear Bruceton School colors to support the teams. At 1 p.m. on October 2, Bruceton versus PA, at Bruceton; 1 p.m. October 9, Bruceton versus Tunnelton and l p.m. October 16, Bruceton versus Terra Alta. The championship games and all-star games begin at noon in Ma- sontown. Larew's Wrecker Service Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Hordesty 60th Anniversory 60th anniversary marked Mr. and Mrs. Elmer C. Hard- esty, of Elkins, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August with their immediate family. They were married Septem- ber 29, 1951 in Mountain Lake Park, MD, by Rev. Randall Prince. ' Mr. Hardesty is retired from Columbia Gas Co. He is the son of the late Arbanes and Susan Hardesty, who had celebrated their 64th anniversary. Mrs. Hardesty is a home- maker. She is the daughter of the late Alton and Nellie Wilt, who had celebrated their 55th anniversary. Elmer and Jane were residents of Manown un- til 1968, , Giady (Randolph County) until 1977, and Bucka- nnon until moving to Elkins in March, 2009. Those attending the dinner at the Steer Steakhouse were: Children: Laurella Lawrence and husband, Mike, and Mark Hardesty and wife, Dawn, all of Elkins; grandchildren: Jeff Shif- ='flett of Elkins, Heather Shif- flett, of Greensboro, NC, Daniel Hardestty and wife, Jessica, of Morgantown, Mrs. Kevin (Kel- ly) Roth, of Crossett, AR,. and Scott Hardesty, of Elkins; great- grandchildren: Kaily Shifttlett, of Calpine, CA and Amyah Har- ris, of Greensboro, NC. He will be presented with his blue ribbon, certificate, and award. Barb Frame distributed our U.S. senator and representative addresses to those present. She also distributed the address of St. Jude's Ranch for Children, where recycled greeting card fronts can be sent to the chil- dren there to be used in making new cards, which are then sold in their retail stores, online and over the phone. The kids learn work skills and are paid a salary for their efforts. Mary Borgman reported Tun- nelton WCTU has received a certificate of merit from the na- tional promotion director for ein an advance union in 2011. Members were informed the West Virginia Woman's Chris- tian Temperance Union State Convention will be held on September 29-30, at Fairfield Inn and Suites at Fairmont. Time was allowed during the meeting for chairmen and mem- bers to complete their annual reports to be submitted to State. Members present were Mary Borgman, Regina Bell, Mazel Williams, Loretta Goff, Barb and Dick Frame, and guests Marilyn Bell, Abagayle Auvil, and Hunter Goff. Members met at the Preston Country Club on August 12, 2011. Dur- ing the business meeting, Greg Sypolt was elected Chairperson of the EDA, Rita McCrobie was elected Vice-Chair and Brian Thomas will remain treasurer. Dennis Xander of the "Just Beneath the Surface Alliance" gave a presentation on the eco- nomic benefits of Marcellus .Shale drilling for the county .He also gave information on the drilling process, chemicals used, land disturbances and heavy industry work done to complete these wells. Members were able to voice concerns and have questions about Marcellus drilling answered. Mark James of ED Solutions facilitated the Strategic Plan- ning session. He started by con- gratulating the Preston County EDA for completing so many goals from last year's meeting. For Fiscal Year 2011-2012, members identified goals and opportunities they would like explored. These included Mar- cellus Shale gas drilling mar- keting, Marcellus opportunities for Preston County businesses, county/community beautifica- tion, retention visits to corpo- rate headquarters, local labor job skills training, making small artisans aware of the availabil- ity of free listings on the CVB website, and as well as promot- ing agribusiness and supporting PMH. James will be using the plan- ning done at the meeting to pre- pare the written Strategic Plan for Fiscal Year 2012. EDA Di- rector Robbie Baylor will then present it to the members for review, comment and approval. The Preston County EDA al- ready has a good start on the first objective. On October 5th, the EDA will be attending the WV Oil and Gas Expo at Mylan Park as a Founding Sponsor. Members of the EDA board are asked to volunteer to staff the booth and to work floor of the Expo. They will promote Pres- ton County and promote busi- nesses in Preston County that have services and products used in the oil and gas industry.
