Letter to the Eaitor
Dear Editor,
Some time ago I made a pro-
posal to the State and Preston
County to build a Lock and
Dam approximately five miles
east of the Route 7 Bridge along
Route 26 in the direction of
Rowlesburg.
I also inclosed a rough sketch
of an outlet from the Cheat Riv-
er supplying water to a holding
lock and dam with fresh water
to supply all of Preston County
in emergencies or when in need.
Also a control to flush and or
add water to keep the water safe
from stagnation.
Build the Lock and Dam sec-
tion far enough from Cheat
River so the river will over flow
or back up into the reservoir. I
cannot express how important
a project of this magnitude is to
Preston County citizens without
warning of a catastrophe in time
to come.
How well we remember in
the past few years our city and
county reservoirs were so low
that some of us were not allowed
to water our lawns or wash our
Vehicles. Bottled water was
sold out in many communities.
Even Deckers Creek, which is
undrinkable, was almost dry.
Yes, we have water tanks along
some of our roads and in differ-
ent cities and towns but, how
long would they last in a State
of Emergency? When was the
last time they were flushed? I
ask you, if we had a bad drought
lasting for any length of time,
where would you get a drink of
water? If Cheat River got low,
like it has in the past, we would
still have a reservoir of drinking
water according to my proposal.
Don't think that I am trying to
be a know-it-all. I am only try-
ing to reach out and show peo-
